It’s Been A Busy 2 Weeks!

Having enthusiastically met with builders, draftsmen, engineers and surveyors since exchange of contracts, this fortnight has been action-packed and we’re ready to submit plans to council.  And not one to let obstacles litter the path to beach house heaven, we’ve sourced furniture, fixtures and fittings from far and distant lands to get the design ‘just so’, even jumping on a plane to choose the suppliers myself!

We’ve also designed quirky items to be custom made, selected colour schemes, fabrics, tap wear, appliances. And the list goes on.

I’ve even chosen the plants for landscaping, which will include the all-important kitchen garden with items crucial to civilised sun-downers: a lime tree and mint…for Mojitos, of course!

With just 6 weeks until completion, we’re getting all our ducks in a very neat row.

Introducing My New Beach House!

At Last! It’s been a long time coming (to be more exact, it’s been 4 years of bargain hunting, budget planning, B&B testing, bank robbery plotting (well…almost!) and bewailing dashed hopes), but now the oft-mentioned beach house is finally coming to fruition!! I have bought me a property on the dunes of Culburra Beach, NSW, which, after a complete DCD renovation, will be open for holiday rental from November 2013.  As a sneak peak, here are a selection of the ‘before’ pictures (so you can see what we’re contending with!) and a photo of the stunning view taken from the currently-tiny-but-soon-to-be-sweeping deck at ‘Culburra House’. To help you keep up on our progress we’ll regularly post the journey from our inspiration, design ideas and shopping trips to building works and installation.  I, for one, cannot wait!

Single And Fabulous!

This gallery contains 1 photo.

Although out of ‘fashion’ in these days of supersized everything, I recently collected some beautiful single beds whilst out bargain hunting. Styled simply their charm speaks for itself.

You know me, when I see something dinky, cool or just plain kooky sitting all alone at an auction house, I can’t help but take pity on the lamentable treasure, bid furiously and bring it home to join my collections of the quaint and curios! My house is bursting at the seams – perhaps I should open an online shop? Now there’s an idea…watch this space…

Here at DCD we’re getting our kicks from our own version of Shades of Grey!

We’ve just given a dose of our own ‘Shades of Grey’ action to this beautiful and until recently tired and dated cream building in Manly. She’s been given a cool contemporary facelift, using paint not ice cubes, we can’t seem to get enough of GREY.  It never ceases to amaze me just how much impact and difference some fabulous colour can transform a building or space.

Below are some before & after’s -

We’re At It Again!

This gallery contains 23 photos.

No sooner have our new clients disappeared on holiday, than we’ve moved the builders, plumbers, electricians and painters in to work their miracles in a flurry of creative (and partly destructive, when it comes to knocking through walls) industry!

What started as a little job to help our charming clients decide on a spot of re-upholstery, has ballooned into creating a new kitchen, expanding a burgeoning teenager’s bedroom into a a private suite any girl would be elated to call her own, adding a laundry room, repainting upstairs and down, embellishing some rooms with new window treatments…not to mention the plethora of antique furniture to be re-upholstered.

But when you see the photos of this unique, rambling period property, oozing charm and bulging with incredible antiques (some boasting particularly gratifying provenances), you’ll see why one little job has mushroomed into one big job!
